As part of the DocNet initiatives, UniPID hosts a yearly series of workshops and seminars that may be of interest to our DocNet members. UniPID activities are free for our members, but prior registration is required. Discover more details about the upcoming events here:

1. DocShop Forestry Meeting 2024: Decolonizing Research Practices

In this workshop organized in connection with the International Forest Policy Meeting 5 (IFPM5), Prof. Sabelo Ndlovu-Gatsheni (Chair of Epistemologies of the Global South, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Bayreuth) will deliver a keynote speech to encourage participants to reflect on:

  • The crisis of our time and the mandate of the moment

  • The contemporary politics of knowledge (reflect on identity, experience, geography and biography of knowledge, ideology, technology, and positionality)

  • Cognitive empire and coloniality of knowledge

  • Global economy of knowledge

  • Decolonization as method (units of analysis and their relevance)

  • Practical ways to incorporate decolonial approaches to research

Following the keynote, as a participant you are encouraged to join a group discussion aimed at reflecting on your positionality and power dynamics within your research practices. Highlighting the importance of reflecting one’s own identity, we invite you to incorporate a decolonial approach into your research endeavors. Questions like "What shapes my research?" or "How can I incorporate decolonial approaches into my research?" will be explored during the workshop through a reflective and discussion session and the sharing of knowledge.

While the invited speaker for the workshop is Prof. Sabelo Ndlovu-Gatsheni, the discussion and reflection session will be organized by Sophia Hagolani-Albov (Doctoral researcher in the TreesForDev project)
