The Finnish Society for Development Research (FSDR) and Finnish University Partnerships for International Development (UniPID) warmly welcome master’s students to a Master’s thesis workshop organized as part of the Development Days Conference 2026.
- Date: Wednesday 25 February 2026
- Time: 12.00-15.00
- Location: University of Helsinki & Online (The exact location will be confirmed to the registered students close to the workshop date)
- Registration: Registration is free of charge for UniPID member universities’ students. However, prior registration is required. Confirm your participation by filling out the form available at the end of this webpage. The deadline for registration was extended until 12 February 2026.
Objective
This workshop aims to guide master’s students to identify and address challenges encountered during writing a thesis, while fostering a collaborative environment that enables them to deliver constructive critics and feedback on their peers’ research papers.
The workshop targets master’s students from different disciplines. However, to facilitate peer review, it is advisable that the thesis topic is framed within one of the following global development research frameworks: development studies, developing country research, international development, or Global South research.
The master’s workshop is designed for students currently engaged in the writing process. However, as in the workshop we will focus on thesis abstracts, it is a prerequisite that participants have a coherent idea for their thesis.
Prior preparation
The participants are asked to submit their papers by 12 February 2026, which should include:
- An abstract of their thesis (max. 500 words) following the instructions given in the "instructions for writing an abstract" section in the concept note.
- Optional: thesis outline.
You can read the full concept note here.
