Roundtable "Infrastructures of research: Towards equitable and responsible north-south collaborations"

Time: Roundtable (February 17th, 16:30-18:00) / Workshop (February 18th, 14:00-15:30)

UniPID will hold a roundtable discussion, which aims to engage students, researchers, and actors involved in the research infrastructures ecosystem to explore possible principles to guide the transition towards more equitable partnerships to make North-South collaboration more sustainable. The goal is to provide input from a range of perspectives, providing a forum for dialogue, opportunities for idea-sharing. The roundtable will be followed by a workshop to identify the needs of researchers and to facilitate the co-creation of ideas for building more equitable and responsible north-south research collaborations. DocShop: The Arts of Academic Publishing

The workshop will be organized in hybrid format. There will be 40 seats available to join the event at the University of Helsinki but the workshop can also be followed online. Further instructions will be sent to all registered participants.

UniPID, FSDR and the Doctoral programme in Political Societal and Regional Change (PSRC) at University of Helsinki will organize DocShop for doctoral researchers and interested supervisors, to get together and discuss academic publishing and its challenges. The aim of the DocShop 2022 is to provide the participants with new insights and a guided discussion on the academic publishing which is one of the most crucial issues of PhD training. The workshop will focus on the lessons learned and current challenges related to publishing scientific articles in social sciences. Special attention will be given to multidisciplinary social sciences like global development research, environmental and urban studies, and sciences and technology studies.

Docshop 2022 is free to all DocNet members. The workshop is chaired by Anja Nygren, Professor of Global Development Studies, University of Helsinki. The invited speakers will be Professor Timothy Oakes (University of Colorado Boulder, USA) and Associate Professor Nikhil Anand (University of Pennsylvania, USA). Master's workshop: A Thesis Boost

FSDR and UniPID warmly welcome master's students to join a workshop targeted for students who are currently writing their master's thesis. The aim of the workshop is to provide with support and guided discussion on their thesis writing process. The workshop is targeted for students who already have/are familiar with their research material. Students in different stages of their master thesis writing are welcome! In the workshop, students will have a chance to discuss and focus on the analysis process, methodology, ways of thinking with theory, and writing the research findings.

The participants are asked to submit short texts, 1-2 pages, by 31 January 2022. The text should be sent to . The text can include e.g. a summary of the proposed research/thesis (including some parts of theoretical/conceptual framework, methodology, research questions); thesis outline, and/or an excerpt from the thesis.

The workshop is free of charge, and it is held remotely. The workshop will be facilitated by Tuija Veintie (Post-doctoral Researcher, University of Helsinki), Saana Hokkanen (PhD Researcher, University of Helsinki), and Omotomilola Ikotun (PhD Researcher, University of Eastern Finland).
