
Join the Sustainability Engineering module and work on real project challenges in Namibia!

Are you interested in sustainability and engineering? This opportunity might be for you! Take a look at this possibility provided by the University of Turku and join their module to learn more on how to build sustainable engineering in the Global South.
University of Turku (UTU) provides an opportunity to UniPID member university students to join their Sustainability Engineering module. The module gives a theoretically sound, competence-oriented and ethical foundation that engineers need to be able to incorporate sustainability into their professional practice, whether in industry or research. The module is based on challenge-driven education and takes place in a concrete setting in Namibia as three months' intense study period.

Course dates: 26.9.2022, Turku, Finland; 13.3.-21.5.2023, Namibia
Coordinating university: University of Turku
Responsible teacher: Professor Erkki Sutinen
Credits: 20 ECTS (a minor subject thematic study module)
Learning methods: On-location project working with an international team and actual local project
Study materials: To be announced
Assessment: The mark of the module is based on 1) comprehension, analysis and further development of the relevant knowledge base (30%), 2) the quality of real-life engineering process and product with stakeholders (50%), and 3) growth in professional ethics (20%).
Additional information: During the intense project work period in Nambia, 15 ECTS worth work is conducted. Between September 2022 and May 2023, the participants are given material for orientation towards project based team work in Namibia and sustainability, worth 3-4 ECTS, that will enable the project work to effictively begin with immidiatly at the beginning of the intense work period. After the course, students are expected to provide a report of post reflections of the course, worth 1-2 ECTS- Final deadline for submitting the post reflections is 15.6.2023. The course is targeted to Master's level students, and open to students also from other fields than engineering.
