Latin America and Finland on Equality in Science

On February 11, 2025, the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) Latin America of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland and the Consulate of Finland in São Paulo, in collaboration with UniPID, celebrate Women and Girls in Science through the 1st Dialogue between Finland and Latin America on Equality in Science.

As part of the event, the organizers aim to lay the foundation for a network of actors interested in continuing the dialogue between Finland and Latin America. The goal is to promote joint actions for the future. In upcoming collaborations, various aspects of equity in science will be explored to shed light on structural challenges and identify common solutions and alternatives.

For Women and Girls in Science! - 1st Dialogue between Finland and Latin America on Equality in Science

February 11, 2025, marks the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science, proclaimed by the United Nations to recognize and highlight the fundamental role of women in the scientific and technological community. The Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) network of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland and the Consulate of Finland in São Paulo, in collaboration with UniPID network, will celebrate the day by organizing a webinar to initiate and promote dialogue between Finland and Latin America on fostering equality in science.

Despite cultural, societal and contextual differences, women tend to face similar obstacles in academia worldwide. This event will focus on the situation and progress of women in academic careers, addressing structural challenges and discussing policies implemented in Brazil, Chile, and Finland. The aim is to shed new light on the problems of inequality in science and explore common solutions for addressing them. Equality in science is not only essential to improve the quality and impact of scientific knowledge but also to empower women and girls globally.
