ENHANCING LEARNING AND TEACHING FOR FUTURE COMPETENCES OF ONLINE INQUIRYIN MULTIPLE DOMAINS (IFUCO)

Research summary

iFuCo-project strives towards three main objectives: to build a deeper theoretical understanding of students' online inquiry
competences, to develop a novel instructional model to enhance learning and teaching of future online inquiry competences in primary education, and to create a long term research network and collaboration between Finland and Chile to meet the global challenges of future education.

Description

iFuCo-project strives towards three main objectives: to build a deeper theoretical understanding of students' online inquiry
competences, to develop a novel instructional model to enhance learning and teaching of future online inquiry competences in primary education, and to create a long term research network and collaboration between Finland and Chile to meet the global challenges of future education. To reach these goals we will conduct two multidisciplinary studies: a large scale cross-sectional survey for students and teachers (Study I) and an intervention study to test the efficacy of the developed instructional model for promoting online inquiry competencies (Study II). The theoretical perspectives introduced by the consortium provide a high potential to reshape research in the field by gaining new knowledge of disciplinary-specific online inquiry competencies, learning, and teaching. Combining the cross-sectional and intervention level in our studies provides multi-level lenses to understand the complicated phenomenon of online inquiry.
The developed assessment tools for online inquiry competences and instruments can be applied in various contexts. The results on students' online inquiry competence learning, teachers' pedagogical practices, and the effectiveness of the instructional model can be used in developing future school curricula and teacher education both in Chile and Finland.
