I'm an Africanist linguist with expertise in spoken and written multilingualism, in particular rural multilingualism. My geographical focus is on Mali, Senegal, Guinea and adjacent regions in West Africa. My current research combines descriptive, sociolinguistic and anthropological perspectives on multilingualism with the goal to develop inclusive and adaptive multilingual educational practices that contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals in the domain of education. This work is reflected in the LILIEMA education programme developed jointly with local activists in Southern Senegal.

My research focuses on West African traditions of music and dance, especially the Wolof sabar tradition in Senegal. During 2019 - 2022, I am conducting my postdoctoral research project "Moving knowledge: the changing embodiments of cultural knowledge in Senegalese sabar performances", funded by Academy of Finland.

Researcher of world politics with an emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. In my PhD project, I examined the post-war realities of former girl and women soldiers in Liberia and gained my doctorate in 2017. My recent publications include a book 'Liberia's Women Veterans: War, Roles and Reintegration' (Zed Books 2018) and several peer-reviewed articles on gender, post-war reconstruction, child soldiers, inequality, and visual research methods. I have lived, studied and/or worked in Liberia, Senegal as well as Zambia and am eager to develop innovative ways to study and understand different phenomena around the world.
