FinCEAL Plus Targeted Travel Grants for STI Forum 2018 - Third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations headquarters, New York, 5-6 June 2018
FinCEAL Plus has opened a Targeted Travel Grant Call to support the participation of senior experts from Finnish universities or research institutions interested in attending the UN STI Forum 2018 - Third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the United Nations headquarters, New York, 5-6 June 2018. During the UN STI Forum 2018, there will also be a side event related to sustainable urbanization organized by Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland on Tuesday 5 June.

Information on the forum
As part of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism mandated by the 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the STI Forum provides a venue for facilitating matchmaking and networking between relevant stakeholders and multi-stakeholder partnerships to identify technology needs in scientific cooperation, innovation and capacity-building, and to help facilitate development, transfer and dissemination of relevant technologies for the SDGs. There will be also discussions on STI cooperation around thematic areas for the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
This year the focus of the STI Forum will be on the following five SDGs:
- Goal 6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
- Goal 7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
- Goal 11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
- Goal 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
- Goal 15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystem, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and revers land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

Information on the Travel Grants
This call is directed to senior experts from Finnish universities or research institutions focusing working with Africa, Asia or LAC and interested in the role of Science, Technology and Innovation in achieving the SDGs.They should also have an interest in the thematic focus areas of the 2018 forum. Please note that this call is for researchers residing in Finland only, and only for this particular event. Interested researchers should send a short description (no more than one page) detailing their interest in the event and how it relates to theirwork. A CV or link to your profile should also be included. The maximum individual grant is 1900€ for the Helsinki region, and 2000€ for the rest of Finland. The grant can be used to cover travel, accommodation, and daily allowances. FinCEAL Plus will award 3-4 grants. Deadline for applications is Monday 30th April, 2018. Decisions on the applications will be communicated by 4th May, 2018.
