Who Can Study?

The courses are intended for all the students and the staff members at the member universities of UniPID. The only limitation are the student quotas: some of the courses can take only a certain number of students. UniPID virtual studies are free for the student. Registration to the courses is mandatory. Please register through the electronic registration system in the courses section of this website.

What do the virtual courses cost?

UniPID does not charge any fees for students enrolled at UniPID universities. Both degree students and exchange students are welcome to register for the courses.

What do I need to for virtual participation?

Firstly you must be sure to allocate enough time to participate effectively in the virtual course as the role of discussion and networking between participants is emphasised. In order to study online, you must have access to a computer with internet access and that has the basic programs for web browsing, word processing, presentation graphics, and spreadsheet calculation programs (e.g. Microsoft Explorer, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

How can I access Moodle?

UniPID virtual courses use the open-source Moodle virtual learning environment and can be accessed at http://moodle.org/. The course coordinator will generate a username and password for each virtual studies student upon successful registration to the course.

How can I use UniPID Virtual Studies towards my degree?

Please remember to include UniPID studies in your personal study plan (HOPS). Proposed studies must be approved in advance i.e. you have to discuss UniPID studies with your professor and get your home university department's approval for the studies to be included in your degree. UniPID virtual studies contact persons on each campus can help you with this procedure.

How do I receive credits?

Once students have successfully completed their course, students will receive their grade directly to their home university through the UniPID central office. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the credits are registered properly in his/her home university within the chosen major or minor. The UniPID contact person at each institution can help with this process.

How many Virtual Studies courses can I take at once?

There is no limit to the number of UniPID virtual courses that can be taken by each student. We recommend you take 1-2 courses at one time to ensure that you have enough time to devote to each course.

When are the UniPID courses offered? Can I take UniPID courses during the summer?

UniPID courses are offered approximately half during the autumn semester and half during the spring semester. Currently  no UniPID courses are offered during the Summer. Courses are offered at the discretion of the coordinator and course content is subject to change each year. Students are encouraged to take a course of particular interest when it is offered as the same course might not be available the following year.

Am I free to study according to my own schedule?

The answer is both yes and no. Students will have to reserve a considerable amount of time to complete the assignments,  within a fixed period of time. The lectures and content will be available for students during the period of time assigned and can be accessed during this time according to a student's schedule.  There may also be group discussions that are less flexible and require participation on a specific day real-time.
