University of Tampere is committed to advancing multiculturalism and sustainable development. University of Tampere is a culturally-committed higher education institution with the social mission of educating visionaries who understand the world and change it. The university contributes to global development through research and education. For example, there is a study module on Sustainable Development available to all students.

Another example of the university’s work is a research group lead by Per Ashorn, a professor of International Health. The group searches for new ways to diagnose, treat and prevent children’s malnutrition, which is considered one of the most central health problems in the world.
