Aalto University was formed in 2010 by merging three Finnish universities: Helsinki School of Economics, University of Art and Design Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology.

Aalto works towards a better world through top-quality research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and pioneering education surpassing traditional boundaries. The Department of Economics at the Aalto University School of Business has been at the forefront in providing courses in development economics from Bachelor’s level to the Ph.D. level. Its researchers have also actively participated in impact evaluations.

Aalto University created the Aalto Global Impact operations model to bring together different actors working to address global societal challenges. One concrete example of Aalto Global Impact’s work is a cooperative project with UNICEF Finland. The project addresses issues related to water, sanitation and hygiene in Uganda. During the project, the partners were able to create a community-based model for waste management.
