The UniPID Strategy for 2011-2015 has divided UniPID's activities under three pillars.
UniPID is committed to building its member universities’ intellectual and institutional capacities in the development field. UniPID promotes development research, study and funding opportunities, as well as events and publications across member institutions and developing country partners. Through knowledge dissemination and creation of collaborative initiatives, such as the Virtual Studies programme, UniPID contributes to the internationalisation of both Finnish and partner institutions.
UniPID applies and promotes the expertise and knowledge of its member universities to contribute to effective policy formulation. UniPID serves as a platform for universities to engage in national and international policy dialogues, acting as a focal point for academic input into Finnish and EU development and research policy. The UniPID network seeks to strengthen institutional partnerships between actors in development research, both in member universities and with institutions outside the network.
UniPID works to strengthen institutional partnerships and discussions between Finland and the South. By forming a channel for more active research and project cooperation between its members and partners, UniPID aims to strengthen and promote research funding and international cooperation opportunities. UniPID is an active partner in three collaborative projects funded by the European Commission: CAAST-Net, ERAfrica, and DocLinks.
