The FinCEAL Initiative External Assessment Comprehensive Report

The Finnish University Partnership for International Development - UniPID and the University of Jyväskylä ordered a comprehensive assessment of the FinCEAL Initiative with the following two main goals: 1. To evaluate the achievements of the FinCEAL Initiative against its goals and objects; and 2. Assess FinCEAL's contribution to enhancing research and innovation cooperation with the target regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean.

UniPID - Finnish University Partnership for International Development / FinCEAL Plus, University of Helsinki and the Embassies of Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Royal Thai Embassy in Finland and the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Finland are organizing a high-level ASEAN-Finland Research seminar focused on Science, Technology and Innovation, and research cooperation between Finland and ASEAN countries at the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture of Finland. The seminar will be live-streamed to the Internet.

The FinCEAL Initiative1, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, started in 2013 as a means to support internationalization of Finnish research and innovation. The focus has especially been on building cooperation with Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean regions, and enhancing Finnish involvement in the Science, Technology and Innovation policy dialogues that occur with the regions at the European level. To address these aims, the initiative has implemented various activities, such as: issuing small-scale grants for building partnerships in the regions, building networks and disseminating information through events and communication efforts as well as engaging in the actual policy processes.

DocNet Seminar 2018 - Doing diversity/interculturality/decoloniality in development research

UniPID DocNet organizes its next academic get-together in Tvärminne Research Station on September 27-28, 2018. This will be a two day retreat, which includes both plenary and workshop sessions. The seminar aims at bringing together the doctoral candidate and supervisor members* of UniPID DocNet. This is to facilitate networking and the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the network members.

FinCEAL+ Final Seminar: Research and Innovation Cooperation with Africa, Asia and LAC  - Future Prospects for Science and Policy, 11 October, 2018

The FinCEAL Initiative, funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, started in 2013 as a means to support internationalization of Finnish research and innovation. The focus has especially been on building cooperation with Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean, and enhancing Finnish involvement in the Science, Technology and Innovation policy dialogues that occur with the regions at the European level. To address these aims, the initiative has implemented various activities, such as: issuing small-scale grants for building partnerships in the regions, building networks and disseminating information through events and communication efforts as well as engaging in the actual policy processes. In the past five years, the EU bi-regional policy dialogues, the national policies and funding landscape have undergone substantial changes, impacting the Finnish research community. FinCEAL has also gained unique insight on the terrain in which Finnish higher education institutions and research centers operate when engaging with their counterparts in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean. Present knowledge shows the current cooperation priorities and policies regarding each of the focus regions and sub-regions differ substantially, and present unique challenges and opportunities for future engagement.

The seminar aims to strengthen research and innovation cooperation between Nordic and Southern Cone countries by offering a forum for knowledge sharing, networking and developing new project ideas.

FinCEAL+ delegation’s experiences at the United Nations Science, Technology and Innovation Forum, 5-6th June, New York

The 3rd United Nations Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Forum took place in New York from 5th to 6th June. The Global Solutions Summit 2018 and the Global Sustainable Technology & Conference series (G-Stic) were held on the 4th and 7th June, respectively, alongside the main STI Forum. FinCEAL+ took part with a delegation of four experts from University of Tampere and University of Lapland.
