Call for experts: Bioeconomy-led development - Opportunities through Nordic-Southern Cone countries cooperation, Buenos Aires, 18-19 October

FinCEAL Plus LAC event: "Bioeconomy-led development - Opportunities through Nordic-Southern Cone countries cooperation”

UniPID - Finnish University Partnership for International Development / FinCEAL Plus together with CIECTI, Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE) and Lund University, are organizing a high-level research and innovation seminar on bioeconomy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 18-19 October 2018. The seminar aims to strengthen research and innovation cooperation between Nordic and Southern Cone[1] countries by offering a forum for knowledge sharing, networking and developing new project ideas.

The program of the event is organized in plenary sessions, in which high-level experts will address the strategic dimensions of the main themes selected for the event: Forest bioeconomy, Agro-based sustainable innovations, and Blue bioeconomy; and parallel thematic working groups focused on the subthemes within each of the aforementioned nucleus. The target group of the seminar are researchers, private sector representatives, policy makers and representatives of funding agencies from the Nordic and Southern Cone countries. FinCEAL Plus is now inviting experts from Finnish universities, research institutions and universities of applied sciences to express their interest in joining the Finnish delegation to the event. We are looking for experts from the following fields:

  • Agro-based new technologies (Clean agriculture; Technological upgrading of products and processes and innovative uses of agro biomass as raw material
  • Sustainable agriculture practices (Exploitation of agricultural waste; Food 4.0)
  • Third generation biofuels and small scale refineries; Biomaterials
  • Blue bioeconomy (Use of sea biodiversity and bioproduction for new value-added products; New technologies for the sustainable use of water)
  • Forest bioeconomy (Innovative wood-based new materials and chemicals, Forest bioenergy)

Please contact FinCEAL Plus LAC Coordinator Kajsa Ekroos (kajsa.ekroos@helsinki.fi) with a brief description of your expertise, your CV and previous experience and current interest in cooperation with Argentina and/or the other Southern Cone countries. Indicate also the sessions you are especially interested in attending. For any questions about the event, contact Kajsa Ekroos preferably before July 6th.

The deadline of this call is Friday 10th August, 2018. The selected experts will be notified by 15th August at the latest. FinCEAL Plus will offer Targeted Travel Grants of max. 2000€ to the selected experts.



[1] Southern Cone (Spanish: Cono Sur) is a geographic and cultural region composed of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Parts of Southern and Southeastern Brazil and Paraguay can politically and socially also be considered to be part of the Southern Cone.
