FinCEAL+ Targeted Travel Grants available for FAUBAI 2018 in Rio de Janeiro and Open Science Forum for LAC in Panama City

FinCEAL+ LAC has opened two Targeted Travel Grant Calls to support the participation of experts based in Finnish institutions to the following events:

FAUBAI 2018: Internationalization and Research: Challenges and Strategies, 14-18 April, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil


The annual conference of FAUBAI – Brazilian Association for International Education is one of the most important events on internalization of higher education in South America.
The conference gathers together hundreds of participants from all over the world, and features a varied program consisting of thematic sessions, workshops and several networking opportunities.

The 2018 edition of FAUBAI is focused on the relationship between internationalization and research, as well as the challenges and strategies to implement comprehensive internationalization policies. The conference will offer a unique opportunity to meet partners and some of the most important players and experts in the
eld as well as also to improve the knowledge of international policies and programs. The target group of FAUBAI includes: Vice-presidents, SIOs, Heads of International Offices from Brazil and abroad;Specialists on internationalization of higher educationand representatives of associations and organizations from Brazil and abroad.

A call for proposals for FAUBAI 2018 is currently open until 15th January, 2018. The 2018 Conference Committee is seeking proposals for sessions and presentations that reflect the best thinking in the field, informed by research, best practices, models, discussions of public and institutional policies. CILAC 2018: Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean, 22-24 October 2018, Panama City


The Open Forum for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean (CILAC) is a dynamic and inclusive multi-stakeholder space for debating, planning, and monitoring the role thatScience, Technology, and Innovation play for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
CILAC has construed itself as a key regional space for debates and exchanges and is organized every two years, alternating in distinct cities throughout the region. It seeks to establish itself as a platform for the outlining of common positions and aspirations for a scientific, technological, and innovation agenda supporting sustainable development whilst simultaneously giving the region a strong voice in the global scope of the World Science Forum. A conference unique in its genre, CILAC connects future researchers with renowned scientists, young entrepreneurs with business and corporate leaders, visionaries and innovators with political decision makers, artists, designers, inventors and engineers, scientific journalists and centers for scientific research. All summoned by the enormous challenges of our time which require the interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration.

The Open Forum focuses on multilateral discussions organized in Plenary Conferences/Sessions led by renowned experts from the region and the world, Thematic Sessions and Parallel Events. The key themes for the 2018 Forum are: Sustainable Cities, Resilience and reconciliation (RELAC) and Bioeconomy. The forum is organized by UNESCO. Information on the Travel Grants


The call is directed to experts based in Finnish institutions interested in strengthening cooperation in science, technology and/or innovation with partners from Brazil and/or the LAC region.

  • FAUBAI targets university staff whose work is related to the internationalization of research and internationalization policies, mobility and cooperation especially with Brazilian institutions and related topics.
  • CILAC targets experts and researchers working with Sustainable Cities, Resilience and reconciliation and Bioeconomy –related topics and interested in building networks with different stakeholder groups from Latin America and/or the Caribbean.

Interested experts should send a short description (no more than one page) detailing their interest in the event and how it relates to your work. A CV or link to your profile should also be included. Preference is given to those who have submitted a proposal either for FAUBAI or for CILAC.

The maximum individual grant is 1900€ for FAUBAI and 1700€ for CILAC, and can be used to cover travel, accommodation, daily allowances and possible registration fees. Applicants from outside the metropolitan Helsinki area can receive max. 100€ in addition to the grant to cover their travel expenses within Finland. FinCEAL Plus will support the participation of max. 7 experts to FAUBAI 2018 and max. 5 to CILAC. The deadline for applications is February 2nd, 2016.
