The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hands out a prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) funded by the Government of Japan, which consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each recipient. The prize was awarded for the first time in 2015.

The Finnish UN Association, in cooperation with the Finnish UNESCO commission, gathered proposals for potential Finnish recipients of the 2017 prize. The panel has now picked three proposals that will be passed on to the UNESCO secretariat as Finnish candidates in the international competition.

The chosen proposals are:

  • UniPID network, coordinated by the University of Jyväskylä: "UniPID Virtual Studies: Sustainability in Development".
  • Youth Academy: "ILMARI - climate education project for youth”
  • SYKLI Environmental School of Finland: "Education for sustainable development in education and training”
UniPID congratulates the fellow nominees and looks forward to the international competition.
