Cross-sectoral cooperation at the centre of discussion in the UniPID & FinCEAL+ Science, Technology and Innovation Crossroads Seminar 2016

UniPID and FinCEAL+' main event of 2016 was the Science, Technology and Innovation Crossroads Seminar- Global Lessons from Cooperation among Academia, Private and Third Sectors, organized in Helsinki on 27-28th October. Over 90 participants joined us for the main event, which included key note speeches, case presentations and workshops aimed at identifying challenges and opportunities for academia-business cooperation in Third Countries. The second day training on how to write successful proposals for Horizon 2020 with partners from Africa, Asia or the LAC region gathered over 100 on-site and online participants.

On the first day of the event, the opening words from Aki Enkenberg, Senior Advisor Information Society and STI for Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, set the stage for discussing the role of different actors and their relevance in cooperation as a platform for equal partnerships. Insightful keynote speeches from Sanna Lukander, the CEO of Fun Academy, and Professor Mika Kautonen from University of Tampere offered a company perspective as well as an academic standpoint on the matter. The key notes were followed by three short case presentations from Lappeenranta University of Technology, the BEAM programme and Plan International, highlighting different aspects and showcasing practical experiences from global projects.

In the afternoon, the group divided into three break out sessions:

  • The FinCEAL Plus Asia workshop showcased experiences of intersectoral cooperation in various thematic areas.
  • The UniPID workshop focused on exploring the crossroads of intersectoral research collaboration for sustainable development with practical exercises.
  • The Design Thinking workshop facilitated by Plan International presented new tools for development with hands-on group work.

The seminar was 'documented' live by professional sketchnoter Linda Saukko-Rauta (more information). Linda's shrewd drawings captured the essence of the presentations and provided a perfect visual summary of the day. The intense yet fruitful day ended with a networking cocktail.

On the second day, FinCEAL+ organized a training on proposal preparation for Horizon 2020 calls with Third Country partners for Pillar III (Societal Challenges) in cooperation with Ttopstart.
