Decisions for UniPID Seminar Grants 2018

UniPID organizes a yearly call for Seminar Grants of up to 2000 euros for UniPID member universities for the purposes of organizing a seminar that discusses a topic related to international development or global challenges.The programme of the seminar should allow presentations by PhD students and the seminar should be open to participants outside of the organizing university.

Master's Award in Development Studies to Antti Tarvainen

Antti Tarvainen from University of Helsinki has been awarded the 2017 Master's Award in Development Studies, handed out by UniPID and Finnish Society for Development Research. UniPID and the Finnish Society for Development Research received 21 submissions competing for this year's Master's Award in Development Studies. Five of these theses were chosen and forwarded to the emeritus committee, who made the final decisions on the theses to be awarded.

Report from UniPID workshop: Tackling with temporalities, cultures and locations of ”Gender” and ”Development”

UniPID organized the workshop session Tackling with Temporalities, Cultures and Locations of ‘Gender’ and ‘Development’: From Global Sisterhood to Queer Dystopias as a part of the 2017 Gender Studies Conference at the University of Jyväskylä. The workshop was divided into two sessions, one on Friday and one on Saturday.

FinCEAL+ Grantee Story: Dr. Haukka’s trip to Uganda for LEAP-Agri Proposal development

LEAP-Agri call was opened earlier this year to attract proposals for long term EU-Africa research and innovation partnerships on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture. Dr. Kaisa Haukka's (HY) Sustainable Intensification of Aquaculture in Africa (SAquA) preliminary proposal was accepted to the second application round, and she visited Makerere University in Uganda to form a closer collaborative link.

Event Invitation: Finnish-SADC Research and Innovation Cooperation in Health and Nutrition, 4th December

FinCEAL Plus and SANBio/BioFISA II (co-funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs), are organizing the above joint event in Helsinki on 4th December, 14.00 - 17.00 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Laivastokatu 22, Engel Hall. 15 representatives from projects funded by SANBio/BioFISA II will be visiting Finland over a 1.5-week period and will be present at the event. The aim is to bring together Finnish scientists and their counterparts from the Southern Africa Development region to broker new relationships, explore opportunities for collaboration and get first-hand information on different support mechanisms that exist for the development of these partnerships. Success stories from the ERAfrica Partnership booklet published

The ERAfrica project, funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme, was the first to bring together research funders from Africa and Europe to jointly design and launch instruments, regulations, and procedures for funding collaborative, bi-regional research projects. With a total of 8.29 million euros granted, ERAfrica funded 17 bi-regional projects with 65 institutions (31 Africa, 34 European) from 18 countries (8 African, 10 European).
